Nor-Shipping Twitter Contest Description

Win up to $1,000 in Nor-Shipping's twitter contest

Nor-Shipping believes twitter can help connect the shipping industry online, spread vital news and info and build on already strong relationships. So in order to boost its adoption in shipping, we're launching a unique contest. The person who begins using twitter now and gains the most followers before Nor-Shipping will win a free trip to Nor-Shipping in Oslo this year, and the role of managing Nor-Shipping's official twitter feed for the opening conference. Further, the person(s) who recruited the winner to twitter will get a cash reward!!

Here's how it works:

The winner of Nor-Shipping's twitter contest will

a) Have started his/her twitter account AFTER 15 January
b) Have registered his/her candidacy by tweeting "@norshipping #contest", in addition to the twitter handle of the twitter user who recruited him/her to the contest (see below)
c) Have obtained the most followers (among participants) by 1 May 2011
d) Be able to attend Nor-Shipping 2011
e) Work in some capacity in (or serving) the shipping industry
f) Follow the Nor-Shipping @norshipping twitter account.

If you don't use twitter

Join twitter today, enter the contest by tweeting "@norshipping #contest" and start playing with twitter and building your followership. If you can point to a twitter user who recruited you to the contest, he or she is eligible to win a cash prize if you win. Just include his/her twitter handle (@xxxxx) in that original contest entry tweet.

The @norshipping account will provide you with tips and ideas about how to get the most out of twitter.

If you use twitter today

Invite anyone you know in the shipping industry to start using twitter and try to win the contest. If someone you directly recruited wins the contest, you get $1,000.

Even if you don't directly recruit the winner, you might still get money. If you tip off someone to this contest, and he/she recruits the winner, that person will get the $1,000, and you'll get $500. The same goes for three links in the chain, with prize money broken down to $250, $500 and $1,000. Just ask everyone you tip off to include your twitter name (@XXXX) in their original contest entry tweet.

Remember: Only the person included in that original contest entry tweet is eligible for prizes, so it pays to act quickly.

What does the winner win

The Nor-Shipping twitter contest winner will get a free round-trip flight to Oslo, and be recognized at the Nor-Shipping opening conference, at the Nor-Shipping exhibition and in all Nor-Shipping channels. Further, he/she will be named the official twitter feed of the Nor-Shipping opening conference. Lastly, the winner will have some happy friends or colleagues, as the people to tip him/her off will get cash prizes.

Example

A twitter user in a shipping company (@mrblue) urges five colleagues to start using twitter and join this contest, and tweets about the contest to his following, urging them to spread the word.

One of his followers (@misspink) takes @mrblue's advice and urges her colleagues to start using twitter and join the contest, and also tweets about the contest to her following.

One of her followers (@mrgreen) does the same as @mrblue and @misspink. One of the persons @mrgreen encouraged to start using twitter and join the contest sends a tweet "@norshipping #contest @mrgreen".

This person, who @mrgreen recruited to the contest via @misspink and @mrblue, later wins the whole contest. @mrgreen wins $1,000, @misspink wins $500 and @mrblue wins $250.

Important Note

Nor-Shipping wants to motivate shipping people to twitter, so that they can realize the benefits of increased communication, networking and cohesion. Note that Nor-Shipping urges all users of twitter (including those taking part in this contest) to follow twitter's very clear terms of service, specifically regarding tricks to increase followerships.

Among the best ways to increase followers is to use twitter, start conversations and share interesting content and opinions. That's the value we believe in. Nor-Shipping, via @norshipping, will be regularly publishing ideas and advice about how to get the most out of twitter in shipping. We want everyone to see the value of this exciting tool together.
